What to expect as a new Footsteps client. . .

As a new client to Footsteps – and possibly a newcomer to counseling in general, you probably have some important questions.  What we don’t answer here on in our FAQs, we’re glad to address with you by phone, so please call.

Scheduling your first appointment and selecting a therapist

You schedule your first appointment with our Intake Coordinator who will gather your basic information by phone and assign one of our therapists to you. We use several factors to determine the best match between clients and therapists. The first of course are the specifics of your needs. We do everything possible to ensure that you’re connected with a therapist with the expertise you require to quickly reach your goals.

Insurance is also a factor.  Our therapists participate in most insurance networks, and we also welcome private-paying clients. For those in need of our services but who cannot afford them, we’re often able to offer financial assistance.

Finally, we consider your schedule and the therapists’ availability.  We offer early morning (7am) and evening (8pm) hours to be as accommodating as possible.

In your first visit…

Your therapist will complete an assessment with you and develop a plan that will guide your work together. It will also provide an indication of the length of time your counseling relationship will likely last in order to achieve your goals from therapy.

There is no set limit for the length of the counseling relationship.  Many people enjoy profound results from brief therapy (a few months).  Some benefit most from long-term therapy lasting for a year or longer.  Session frequency varies from weekly to bi-weekly or monthly.

Contact us.  Even if we aren’t the right source of assistance for you, we can likely direct you to the resources you need.
